Description

Delightful homemade peppermint patties that blend refreshing peppermint with rich chocolate, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups powdered sugar (sifted)
  • 14 ounces sweetened condensed milk (one standard can)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1.5 teaspoons peppermint extract
  • 0.5 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
  • 0.25 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • 16 ounces dark chocolate (chopped or chips)
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil (or vegetable shortening, for smooth dipping)
  • 2 tablespoons crushed candy canes (optional garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix the sifted powdered sugar, sweetened condensed milk, softened butter, peppermint extract, optional vanilla extract, and sea salt. Stir until well combined and forms a dough-like consistency.
  2. Dust a clean surface with powdered sugar and roll the dough into small balls, about the size of a quarter. Flatten each ball into a patty shape.
  3. Place the patties on a parchment-lined baking sheet and freeze for about 30 minutes.
  4. Melt the dark chocolate with coconut oil in a microwave-safe bowl or over a double boiler. Stir until smooth.
  5. Once the patties are firm, dip each one into the melted chocolate using a fork. Tap off any excess chocolate.
  6. Place the dipped patties back on the parchment-lined baking sheet. If desired, sprinkle crushed candy canes on top before the chocolate sets.
  7. Allow the chocolate to harden completely, which can be done at room temperature or in the fridge.

Notes

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week, or in the fridge for up to two weeks. Freeze for up to three months with layers of parchment paper to avoid sticking.
