- 2 large eggs

- 1 jar (10 ounces) maraschino cherries, drained and patted dry
- 12 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 tablespoon vegetable shortening (optional, for smoother chocolate)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour an 8×8 inch baking pan.
- In a large bowl, combine melted butter, sugar, cocoa powder, and salt. Mix well.
- Stir in vanilla extract, then add eggs one at a time.
- Gradually add flour, mixing until just combined.
- Fold in chopped nuts, if using.
- Pour batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out with slightly moist crumbs.
- Let brownies cool completely in the pan before cutting into 1-inch squares.
- Press a maraschino cherry onto the center of each square.
- Melt chocolate chips and shortening (if using) in a double boiler or microwave until smooth.
- Dip each brownie with a cherry into the melted chocolate, coating completely.
- Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet to set.
- Refrigerate for 15-20 minutes to harden the chocolate.
