Description
Soft, chewy, and coated in powdered sugar with beautiful pastel cracks, these Springtime Crinkle Cookies are the most cheerful and delicious spring treat you will ever bake.
Ingredients
2 cups All-Purpose Flour
1 1/2 tsp Baking Powder
1/4 tsp Salt
1/2 cup Unsalted Butter, softened
1 cup Granulated Sugar
2 large Eggs
1 tsp Vanilla Extract
1/2 tsp Almond Extract (optional)
1/2 cup Powdered Sugar for coating
Pastel Gel Food Coloring in your favorite shades
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
2. Whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt in a medium bowl.
3. Beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes.
4. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
5. Stir in vanilla and almond extracts.
6. Gradually fold in dry ingredients until a thick dough forms.
7. Divide dough into portions and mix a tiny drop of gel food coloring into each. Chill for at least 30 minutes.
8. Roll tablespoon-sized balls in powdered sugar until generously coated.
9. Place 2 inches apart on prepared baking sheet.
10. Bake 10 to 12 minutes until tops crack and edges are set. Centers will look slightly soft.
11. Cool on tray a few minutes then transfer to wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
Always use gel food coloring, never liquid.
Coat dough balls very generously in powdered sugar for bold cracks.
Do not overbake. Cookies firm up as they cool.
Dough can be refrigerated up to 24 hours before baking.
