Description
The most satisfying Smash Burger Bowl made with crispy caramelized ground beef pressed into a hot skillet for maximum crunchy edges over air-fried potatoes with melted cheese caramelized onions and a creamy Cajun special sauce. All the best parts of a smash burger in a bowl in 30 minutes.
Ingredients
1 lb Ground Beef lean preferred
1 lb Red Potatoes diced into bite-sized pieces
1 to 2 cups Shredded Cheddar or Colby Jack Cheese
1 cup Chopped Lettuce or Mixed Greens
1 small Yellow or Sweet Onion diced
1 to 2 tbsp Olive Oil
Salt and Black Pepper to taste
1/2 cup Mayonnaise
1/4 cup Ketchup
1 tbsp Yellow or Dijon Mustard
1/2 tsp Cajun Seasoning adjusted to taste
Optional: Pickles Extra Lettuce Fresh Parsley
Instructions
1. Toss diced potatoes with olive oil, salt, and pepper.
2. Air fry at 400°F for 16 to 18 minutes shaking halfway until golden and crispy. Alternatively roast at 425°F for 25 to 30 minutes.
3. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-low. Add diced onion and cook 10 to 15 minutes until caramelized and golden. Remove and set aside.
4. Increase skillet heat to medium-high. Add ground beef and press firmly into the hot skillet with a wide spatula.
5. Leave undisturbed 3 to 4 minutes until deeply caramelized and crispy on the surface.
6. Break up briefly stir and allow to sit another 1 to 2 minutes. Drain excess fat. Season with salt and pepper.
7. Whisk mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, and Cajun seasoning in a small bowl until smooth.
8. Divide crispy potatoes among bowls.
9. Top with smashed beef and scatter cheese over the hot beef. Allow to melt 1 minute.
10. Add caramelized onions and drizzle special sauce generously.
11. Finish with lettuce, pickles, and parsley if using. Serve immediately.
Notes
Press beef firmly and flatly into the hot skillet for maximum caramelized crispy edges. This is the key technique.
Allow beef to sit undisturbed for at least 3 minutes before stirring for the best crust.
Use high heat when cooking the beef. A not-hot-enough pan will not produce the smash burger character.
Store all components separately in the refrigerator up to 3 to 4 days.
Reheat potatoes in the air fryer at 375°F for 5 minutes for the crispiest result.
