Ingredients
1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
½ teaspoon salt
½ cup unsalted butter, melted and cooled
1 cup pumpkin puree (not pumpkin pie filling)
1 cup brown sugar, packed
2 large eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (plus more for topping)
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 9×5-inch loaf pan.
2. Whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
3. In a large bowl, combine melted butter, pumpkin puree, brown sugar, eggs, and vanilla.
4. Gently fold dry ingredients into wet mixture without overmixing.
5. Stir in chocolate chips.
6. Pour batter into loaf pan, smooth top, and sprinkle extra chocolate chips.
7. Bake 55–65 minutes, until toothpick inserted comes out mostly clean.
8. Cool in pan 15 minutes, then transfer to wire rack.
Notes
Do not overmix batter to keep the bread soft.
Tent with foil if top browns too quickly.
Swap butter for coconut oil for a dairy-free loaf.
For muffins, bake 18–22 minutes instead.
