Description

The most crispy and cheesy Pizza Grilled Cheese made with buttery garlic-seasoned sourdough bread, melted mozzarella and Parmesan, tangy marinara sauce, and savory pepperoni. The ultimate 10 minute comfort food sandwich that tastes exactly like your favorite pizza.

Ingredients

Scale

4 slices Sourdough White or Whole Wheat Bread

2 tbsp Unsalted Butter softened

1/2 cup Marinara or Pizza Sauce

1 cup Shredded Mozzarella Cheese

1/4 cup Parmesan Cheese grated

12 slices Turkey Pepperoni or preferred topping

1/2 tsp Garlic Powder

1/2 tsp Italian Seasoning

2 tbsp Fresh Basil chopped optional for garnish

Instructions

1. Spread softened butter evenly on one side of each slice of bread all the way to the edges.

2. Sprinkle garlic powder and Italian seasoning over each buttered side and press gently to adhere.

3. Flip two slices buttered side down. Spread a thin even layer of marinara on the inside face of all four slices.

4. Layer shredded mozzarella and grated Parmesan over the sauce on the two base slices.

5. Lay 6 pepperoni slices over the cheese on each sandwich.

6. Top each sandwich with the remaining bread slices buttered and seasoned side facing up.

7. Heat a large skillet over medium-low heat.

8. Place sandwiches in the pan and cook 3 to 4 minutes pressing down gently with a spatula every minute.

9. Flip carefully and cook another 3 to 4 minutes until golden brown and cheese is fully melted.

10. Rest 1 minute before slicing diagonally.

11. Garnish with fresh basil and serve with warm marinara for dipping.

Notes

Always cook over medium-low heat so cheese melts fully before the bread browns.

Use a thin layer of sauce to prevent soggy bread.

Press down with a spatula during cooking for even golden contact with the pan.

Pre-cook any vegetable toppings to remove excess moisture before adding.

Reheat leftovers in a toaster oven or skillet rather than microwave for the crispiest result.
