Description
A simple and rewarding recipe to make authentic Neapolitan pizza sauce using high-quality San Marzano tomatoes.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 (28 oz.) can/jar whole peeled DOP San Marzano tomatoes
- 1 teaspoon sea salt
- 4 fresh basil leaves
- 1 clove garlic, peeled (optional)
- Splash of extra virgin olive oil (optional)
Instructions
- Remove the tomatoes from the can and place them into a blender or a bowl if using an immersion blender.
- Add the sea salt and basil leaves to the tomatoes.
- Pulse the mixture until the sauce reaches your desired consistency—smooth or chunky.
- If you want a thinner sauce, add 1 tablespoon of the sauce from the can at a time until you reach your preferred thickness.
- Use your homemade pizza sauce right away, or store it in an airtight jar in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
Notes
For best flavor, use fresh basil. Adjust garlic and salt according to taste. Consider adding red pepper flakes for heat.
