Description

A fun and festive cake for Halloween celebrations, perfect for impressing guests or delighting kids.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 125 g unsalted butter (melted)
  • Cocoa powder to dust
  • 350 g all-purpose flour
  • 450 g caster sugar
  • 1 tsp bicarb soda
  • 1 tsp fine salt
  • 50 g cocoa powder (sifted)
  • 350 g unsalted butter (softened)
  • 4 large eggs (55g each, room temperature)
  • 350 g milk (room temperature)
  • 3 batches American Buttercream Frosting
  • 8 drops orange food gel
  • 4 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 100 g dark chocolate (melted)
  • 3 drops green food gel
  • 5 drops black food gel

Instructions

  1. Prepare your cake tin by greasing it well and dusting the inside with cocoa powder.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the all-purpose flour, caster sugar, bicarb soda, salt, and sifted cocoa powder.
  3. In another bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy, then add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients and milk, mixing until smooth.
  5. Pour the cake batter into the prepared tin and bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for about 40-50 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Let the cake cool in the tin for a while before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
  7. Prepare the American Buttercream Frosting, divide it into three parts, color one part with orange food gel, another with cocoa powder, and leave the last part white.
  8. Once the cake is cool, place it on a serving plate and cover it with the orange frosting, decorating it to look like a pumpkin with the green and black frosting for the stem and face.

Notes

Ensure all ingredients are at room temperature for best results. Don’t overmix the batter. Use candy or edible eyes for decoration.
